How to blur private info in a screen recording on Windows
Before you share a recording, check the screen for things other people should not see: passwords, email addresses, API keys, customer names, notifications. PointerStudio can hide them after you record, so you do not need to record again.
Steps
- Record your screen as usual, or open an existing recording.
- In the editor, add a blur, pixelate or cover block over the private area.
- Place it over the area and set the time it should be visible.
- Play the video and check that nothing slips out.
- Export an MP4 (Ctrl + E).
Blur, pixelate or cover?
- Blur looks soft and is good for faces and backgrounds.
- Pixelate is clear that something is hidden.
- Cover hides the area fully. Use it for passwords and keys.
Tips
- Cover secrets completely. Light blur on small text can sometimes be read.
- Turn on Do Not Disturb so notifications do not pop up while you record.
- If a key was shown, change it after you share the video.
More: record a tutorial for YouTube and add zoom to a screen recording.
The installer is new and not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may show a warning the first time: select More info, then Run anyway, and download only from this site or the official GitHub release.
