A screen recorder with auto captions for Windows

Captions help people watch with the sound off and make tutorials easier to follow. PointerStudio can create captions for you when your video is in English, and you can change how they look.

How auto captions work

  1. Record your screen with your microphone, or open a recording.
  2. In the editor, open the Text & Captions tab and choose auto captions.
  3. PointerStudio turns your speech into captions on the timeline.
  4. Pick one style and apply it to all captions, then fix any words.
  5. Export an MP4 with the captions in the video.

On your computer

Speech recognition runs on your computer. The speech model is downloaded the first time you use auto captions, so that step needs an internet connection and some disk space. After that, captions are made on your own PC.

Style captions

Limits

Auto captions work for English. Always read them before you export, because names and technical words can be wrong.

The installer is new and not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may show a warning the first time: select More info, then Run anyway, and download only from this site or the official GitHub release.
